Freedom in the Water

Crystal blue, ice cold, fresh and refreshing - that's lake water, and we love it!  There is nothing like dipping in the lake on a 95 degree day, the cold water runs smoothly around our hot bodies, waking us up, cooling us down and bringing life back into our tired steps.

At home we only swim in the pool, but here in New Hampshire there are no pools, no chemicals, no memberships, just lake after lake of fresh water where we can swim until our hearts are content and our bodies are cool.

With all of this swimming, the boys are growing in their abilities!  A month ago, Wyatt wouldn't venture from the steps.  He clung to the side of the pool, not willing to venture past where his feet could touch.  He would dunk his head one time for a second and that was it.  But now, after weeks of swimming both at home and here, he is a new kid.  Andrew and I stare at each other wondering where the scared swimmer went.  He dives for rings on the bottom of the pond.  He swims with his head under the water, arms and legs working together in doggy paddle fashion.  He ventures out where he can't touch either in a life jacket or tube.  We call him "junior fish" for Tyler has already been branded the fish of the family!

We are so proud of Wyatt and Tyler for their love of water.  They spend hours playing together in the water, encouraging each other, diving together, racing.  Wyatt even jumped off the docks today and did cannonballs!  Wow, what progress he has made in such a short time.  Andrew and I both said, it isn't the lessons that are important, it is the exposure and the confidence over time.  Learning to swim takes time and patience.

Someday, our other little minnow will shed her fear, but for now she is content on the shore!!  For now, she just wears her brothers clothes and looks stylish and cute!
Exploring the great blue pond - every day they venture further.  Here they have on life jackets, but just in the last few days, they have taken them off and explored without them!

Sunset on Messer Pond - even more beautiful!
